Hard-Shell Hyperbaric Chamber: 1.3 or 1.5 ATA, Seated

A hard-shell, seated hyperbaric oxygen chamber for one person. The steel chamber is pressurised above normal atmospheric pressure while the user sits in a sofa seat and breathes concentrated oxygen through a headset. It comes with its own oxygen concentrator and runs each session automatically: pressurisation, treatment time, depressurisation and door release.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) combines two things: higher air pressure around the body and a higher concentration of oxygen in the air you breathe. Inside the closed chamber, air is pumped in until the set pressure is reached. The user then breathes oxygen at about 93% concentration from the oxygen concentrator through a headset, while the air in the cabin itself stays at normal composition.

Pressure is measured in ATA (atmospheres absolute). Normal air pressure at sea level is 1.0 ATA.

• 1.3 ATA: mild hyperbaric pressure, 30% above sea level. The most common level for wellness and home use.
• 1.5 ATA: 50% above sea level, for a stronger session. Suited to wellness centres and experienced users.

Higher pressure takes longer to build up and release, and puts more strain on the ears and sinuses. Anyone new to hyperbaric sessions should start at 1.3 ATA.

Both layouts have the same price and the same equipment. They differ only in size and how you enter:

• Short side: a narrow, upright chamber with the door directly in front of the seat. You walk straight in and sit down facing the door. Takes the least floor space.
• Long side: a wider chamber with the door on its long side, next to the seat. More room inside.

• Session length fully adjustable from 30 to 120 minutes, in 10-minute steps
• Typical session at 1.3 ATA: around 60 minutes, often 60 to 90 minutes depending on the protocol
• When the session ends, the chamber depressurises automatically and the door opens on its own
• Depressurisation takes about 8 to 15 minutes at 1.3 ATA, and is not counted in the session time. Example: a 60-minute session plus about 8 to 15 minutes to return to normal pressure
• Touchscreens inside and outside the chamber show pressure, temperature, oxygen concentration and flow

• 2 automatic safety valves that release pressure if it goes above the set maximum
• 2 manual emergency decompression valves, one inside and one outside, for a quick exit
• Pressure releases automatically if the power fails
• Oxygen is delivered only to the headset; the oxygen level in the cabin air stays at or below 25.5%

Not recommended for people with an untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung), severe lung disease, an acute ear or sinus infection, uncontrolled seizures, claustrophobia, or during pregnancy. Ear pressure changes are normal; equalise by swallowing or yawning, and stop the session if you feel pain. Never take flammable items, lighters, batteries or oils into the chamber.
